Phil Trowbridge, President NYBPA
President’s Message by Phil Trowbridge
First and foremost, I am thankful for my family. While we were in Syracuse for our annual producers meeting, they were at home facing extreme cold and a serious winter storm. How I wish they could have been there with me. I was so proud of our son PJ for being selected Cattleman of the Year, and pleased that I was elected as your president.
I am thankful for this time of year as we are calving heavy and we get to see how our mating program did from last year. I can’t think of many things that bring a smile to my face faster than those calves racing around the pasture, then nursing, and then looking up at me with that big quirky milk mustache.
I am thankful to all of you for being the best care takers in the world. This past year was extremely challenging for all of us with the rain, mud, snow, frozen temperatures, then more rain and mud, followed bymore rain and more mud. With feed being short for many of us and the marketplace being a little tough, it would have been easy to get depressed through it all. But as I talk with many of you, that is not the case – as we are a hardy bunch that won’t let Mother Nature push us around.
Lastly I am thankful for my friends who I lean on everyday, and as I get older, I realize how important you all are to me.
I am grateful for you, my fellow beef producers, and look forward to working with you this year to promote and further build awareness of our great industry, the families behind the farms, and getting to know you better.
